Back at Bispham drive for the first home game of the season, with Woodhouse Colts the visitors. After an encouraging team performance the previous week, and with a good midweek training session focused on player positioning, the team went into the game with confidence.
With Makai in goal, a defensive duo of Nathan and Eddie, a midfield trio of Ben, Michael and Coby, and Jack up front the game began brightly with both teams evenly matched for the first 15mins, but unfortunately a couple of missed tackles allowed Woodhouse Colts to take the lead and a defensive mix-up gave the opposition a second soon after. This was a real body blow for a team which was already lacking confidence after recent results. The team responded well however, with the best move of the match for Tornados to follow, with Nathan picking out Jack in a wide position with a perfect cross field pass, who in turn picked out Michael on the edge of the box, who saw his powerful effort sail agonisingly the wrong side of the post. Again play was evenly matched, with Alex replacing Coby and Oliver coming on for Michael, but another Woodhouse goal lowered team moral even further.
At half time the message was one of belief and ‘not giving up’ to a team which was noticeably down, but against an opposition who were playing well, the 2nd half again proved difficult, especially when Alex caught an accidental stud to the top of the foot and couldn’t continue.
Despite the result there were several positive aspects. Jack again put in a tireless performance playing in several positions during the game. Makai, in goal refused to let the fact that the opposition were scoring goals get him down, pulling off save after save and Oliver, on another day, would have scored the goal that the team desperately need to kick start their season.
