Match Report

This week Tornados made the short trip to Attenborough to play local neighbours Attenborough Colts. After the entertaining draw between the two sides a few weeks previous, both teams went into the match with confidence.
After the change in formation last week paid dividends, Tornados started again with a 2-1-2-1 formation with Makai as usual in goal, Eddie and Nathan in defence, Alex in the holding role in between defence and attack, Ben and Coby in midfield and Jack up front.

From the first whistle Tornados were on the offensive and that was the way that play was to continue for the majority of the first half. Nathan and Eddie were playing well in defence, Jack was putting in his usual tireless shift up front and Coby and Ben were supporting both defence and attack, but it was Alex, who has taken to the new holding midfield role, that was catching the eye of both coaches and supporters. With accurate passing, good ball control skills and defensive tackling, Alex was all over the pitch and controlling the game, and just before half time he got his reward with his first goal of the season. After a good run from Jack into the opposition penalty area, the ball broke to Alex, who controlled, took a couple of touches past two defenders and powered the ball past the Attenborough goalkeeper.

At half time there was nothing more for the coaches to say, but to keep up the good work and not to allow complacency to set it, but as the 2nd half started, it was clear that Tornados were in no mood to let this game slip away and set about extending their lead.

A run from Oliver down the left wing set up an opportunity for Jack to double Tornados advantage and then Jack repaid the debt by playing a through ball which allowed Oliver to go one on one with the keeper and make it three.
There was a brief period of concern when Attenborough pulled a goal back from a well worked move, but when Alex played a pinpoint pass which bypassed the Attenborough midfield and allowed Jack to put an audacious chip of the goalkeeper into the top corner, the result was beyond doubt.

As the final whistle went, Tornados had recorded their first win of the season, which was no more than the performances of the past few weeks had deserved.

For his all-round performance and for picking up his 1st goal of the season, the man of the match award for Tornados this week went to Alex.
