Match Report | The Under 8 Whites started their first home match of the new season against Hucknall Sports. Coming off the back of a great result last week, the team were feeling ready for the match. The starting line up was Mikey in goal after an awesome performance last week, Nathan was our last man with a midfiled partnership of Emin and Coby and Oliver up front. As expected, the game started at a ferocious pace with the Tornados pressing hard. There were a few sparse chances to both sides but all chances for Hucknall were quashed with fast strong defending from Nathan and the safe hands of Mikey. The opening goal went to Hucknall against the run of play, Hucknall’s striker siezed on a throw and squeezed a shot in. After the first 10 minutes, changes were made - Dan came on for Oliver up front, Alex slotted into defence and the midfield positions were occupied by Michael and Eddie. With the Tornados pressuring deep inside the Hucknall half, a quick throw taken by Eddie allowed Dan to seize the ball and beat the Hucknall keeper with his left foot. The pressure applied to Hucknall was relentless and some neat passing through midfield between Dan and Micheal set Emin free on goal who controlled the ball and put an unstoppable shot past the Hucknall keeper.
The second half was a nonstop assault on the Hucknall goal, it was break away from the Hucknall half and a 50/50 challenge that went against Toton and allowed Hucknall the opportunity to get a goal back from the resulting free kick. Despite the set back Toton continued to press; good passing through the midfield from Emin and Coby gave Dan two good chances - one hitting the post and a second just clearing the bar. Brave football from Coby saw him clipped from behind and come off injured. Oliver came on for Dan and Eddie dropped in as last man. 18 minutes into the second half with Toton looking for another goal, Hucknall broke and beat the advancing Mikey. The final throws of the game brought on Oliver upfront, Alex in defence and Nathan to bloster the midfield along side Emin. Continued pressure saw Oliver come close on a couple of occasions but the Hucknall Keeper kept all the Tornados chances out, after 3 succssive corners the final whistle was blown. A great performance from all the Tornados who were unlucky not to come away with more from the match. |
